It’s hard to believe that Christmas and New Year are nearly a wrap, and Valentine’s Day is on its way. Cleveland is a special place that offers some ideal getaways for this romantic holiday, which falls on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009. Taking the lead of tourism professionals in the city that brands itself as a “positively”, here are a few places you may want to escape to for your rendez vous.
InterContinental Hotel Cleveland (downtown)
A Touch of Romance is in the air in this downtown affair which allows lovers to get away and wrap themselves in luxury. Chilled champagne, a dozen roses and Godiva chocolates could be great, but what about a late night romp and breakfast for two in North Coast Café on site?
When the temperatures dip, luxuriate at the Ritz. With elegance inside, the beautiful crystal chandeliers, waterfalls and gourmet chefs that create the most delicious meals and desserts are at your disposal. We have visited the Ritz and enjoyed its amenities and location so much, we’ve decided to go back and spend at least one night there on our next Cleveland adventure during the Valentine’s Day escape. From the West Coast it take about half a day to get to Cleveland, so we’re not in a big hurry to get back home. Planning to make the trip a five day stint, Night Number 2 will be spent at the Ritz, in fact. As we check the hotel prices now, the rates for mid-February are costing around $249, which is quite reasonable for the Ritz.
These two hotels should get us started on this trip. For eating out, Cleveland doesn’t miss the boat on dining. Several restaurants that have been recommended include: Pier W, a fresh seafood place described as offering the best lake and city views in Cleveland. Over 40 years young, it has undergone a renovation, transforming it into an ever better spot for locals and tourists to relish. Lola Bistro, John Q’s Steakhouse, Mallorca (serving Spanish and Portuguese recipes), and Fahrenheit in the Tremont neighborhood, are a few options on our list. Getting to Cleveland in February means bringing some warm jackets usually. While temps can be very cold, you also may get a surprise with those occasional spring-like temps. Since we bet on the cold, we’ll be prepared for winter, but glad if the weather heats up.
