Myrtle Beach, South Carolina –
America’s Family Fun & Sun Destination
by
Deborah Brown
Myrtle Beach,
South Carolina is a sunny beachside community that
offers a wide array of affordable, family-friendly
entertainment. Located in the middle of the Grand
Strand, a 60-mile stretch of beach running along
South Carolina’s northern coastline, this immensely
popular locale is known in many circles as the
“Seaside Golf Capital of the World” with 115 regular
golf courses as well as 50 mini-golf courses that
seem to top one another in theme (pirates,
dinosaurs, etc.) creativity, size, and unusual ways
to sink a putt!
Like many
destinations in the Northern Hemisphere, the hottest
months in Myrtle Beach are June, July and August,
with average daily temps running 70s-80s during
those months and topping out at around 90 degrees.
Humidity is high, but there are ample opportunities
to cool off in the refreshing Atlantic surf, not to
mention the many water parks that dot the area.
Kids of all ages
can enjoy the thrills and spills of amusement parks,
beach volleyball, swimming, and entertainment that
runs the gamut from dinner theater to “Vegas style”
celebrity look-alike reviews to Shakespearean
productions. Shoppers can check out some of the
area’s sophisticated malls, as well as many of the
quaint Mom ‘n Pop T-shirt shops.
Lodging choices
are plentiful, ranging from campgrounds and seaside
house rentals, to condos, to motels, hotels and
five-star resorts. Pets are welcome at many area
lodges if you can’t bear to leave your beloved dog
or cat at home.
In general, the
atmosphere in Myrtle Beach is fun and rural casual.
Don’t be surprised to see many people getting around
on golf carts. Fireworks, especially in the summer
months, are extremely popular – night after night,
you could be in for quite a show!
